In 2009 we continued to support local and national charities through our fundraising initiatives and donations. We gave employees the opportunity to put forward a charity of their choice and a case as to why we should donate to their particular charity, Diabetes UK was chosen and as a result a donation will be made to this charity.
The company’s overall chosen charity for 2009 was WaterAid, an international charity whose mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. A number of activities have been held to help raise money for WaterAid with some of our employees participating in the WaterAid Lottery on a monthly basis.
The beginning of 2009 saw us working closely on an exciting and innovative project with Coventry University. Students from the university were presented with a detailed design brief to develop Icons for several functions that are integrated into our web based compliance tool ZetaSafe. The students submitted their designs to a panel of judges from Zeta Compliance Technologies, who then shorlisted three students to develop their ideas further.
The designers then had ten days to develop their ideas before presenting them to a panel of high profile judges. Judges on the day included Rob Nicoll, CEO of Zeta Compliance Group plc, and John Caines, who was recently awarded an OBE in the Queens Honours list earlier this year for service to Entrepreneurship and to Business in the South West. For the Group this project was all about balance and a very genuine desire to give something back by encouraging and supporting educational projects. We felt this opportunity was good for the students to learn and know of the expectations of clients in the real world. After the completion of this project we have supported one of the finalists and continue to use him for new design projects.
2009 also saw us support national sport activities with the sponsorship of a Youth Centre of Excellence Academy member of Cambridge United Football Club, and also we sponsored/contributed for a student to work for the Russ Foundation girls’ home in Southern India. The student was able to work in the established nursery and primary school, helping to provide an education for local children living in small villages with no school facilities; the student was also able to assist with vocational training programmes to help people in local communities develop skills that will help them find employment. Furthermore, Russ have developed a number of community action programmes, including a mobile clinic that reaches out to thousands of people, and a programme that provides care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS and promotes AIDS awareness within the community.
